Foshan Chancheng Hospital has successfully implanted a leadless "capsule" pacemaker — among the first batch of such procedures performed nationally. Roughly the size of a large vitamin capsule, the device is delivered through a catheter from the vein to the heart without the chest incision, leads or pacemaker pocket required by traditional systems.

Scar-Free, Minimally Invasive

Because the leadless device is implanted directly inside the heart, patients avoid the surgical scar and potential complications associated with conventional pacemakers. The procedure is especially suited to patients who need a single-chamber pacing solution and wish to minimize invasive intervention.

"This represents another step forward in bringing advanced, less invasive cardiac care to patients in the Greater Bay Area," a representative of the Heart Hospital noted.

Nearly 17 Years of Battery Life

The leadless system is designed for exceptional longevity — with a battery life of close to 17 years in typical use, reducing the need for replacement procedures over a patient's lifetime. Its compact, self-contained design also lowers the risk of lead-related issues.

Part of a Broader Cardiac Program

The implantation builds on Chancheng's growing structural-heart program, which has previously performed the region's first TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) and first MitraClip mitral repair. As a municipal key specialty with national "Five Centers" certification, the Heart Hospital continues to expand advanced options for local and international patients.
